Quite a random subject I know, but just now my Son is working at a glass recycling company and hearing how his working day is going has made me think about recycling. All week he has been so busy emptying residential and business glass bins and then the truck takes them back to the depot for recycling... it's tough work pulling some of these business glass bins, they can weigh half a tonne at least and he does this for 10 - 11 hours day.
Today however, he mentioned he was working in Glasgow's East End and all the bins were just about empty! It seems that the poorer the area the less they recycle? But is this true? What do you think? At home we try and recycle as much as we can. We're not in Glasgow though and we don't have glass bins, we do have a general waste bin and a recycle bin and we can recycle a whole lot in this bin, from tins, cardboard, paper, boxes... lots.. probably everything but glass! When it comes to our bin days, our general bin is usually never full and our bins are emptied every 2 weeks... but our recycle bin is always jam packed full.
I've also noticed that some people in my street have a huge general bin, probably double the size of ours. We are a family of 4 adults soon to be 5 with the addition of McBump and we don't fill our normal general bin in two weeks... but some neighbours have a double size general bin, which they fill to the brim AND all that is in their household is 2 adults and a 3 year old........ how much rubbish can they have? They can't be recycling much at all.
A x
